It’s all about the gut

Did you know that 70% of your immune system is in your gut? We need to make sure that the gut is ready to take action, especially with everything we are facing today!

If immunity isn’t the way to your heart, studies show that a healthy gut also helps with mental health (yes, the brain and gut are HIGHLY connected, which we will handle in another blog post), weight maintenance and digestion — and if we do not have proper digestion, we are contributing to a lifetime of health issues that will continue to bubble up, such as allergies (yes, food allergies!), premature aging, and other chronic disease such as arthritis, psoriasis, etc. The list goes on and on!

Probiotics are key to gut health and supplements can be a good way to start. Probiotics are a source of GOOD gut bacteria and though we can get them from certain foods (think pickles, sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha, sourdough bread), these food sources are not necessarily staples of our cultural diet.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions on which probiotics to try, but I always tend to go for a probiotic that is shelf stable, meaning no need to refrigerate, because intuitively if it can’t survive at room temp, how will it have a fighting chance surviving the stomach acids to make it to the intestines, which is where we need them! Take with food and mix up brands when you can. This will ensure a diverse community of bacteria. Happy gut!
